Diet & Feeding Regime (full details can be found on pages 388-413)

On a fresh food diet, vitamin A, vitamin D and mineral supplements are necessities for those birds housed indoors and exhibiting sexual behaviours.  To balance the nutritional needs of the companion bird, Turbobooster, E Powder PLUS, Fvite PLUS and NVA Powder are added to the fresh food diet. The frequency of supplementation varies according to the bird’s nutritional demands for vitamin A, vitamin D, calcium and other nutrients as follows:

1.  In companion birds that are not exhibiting sexual behaviours  (see chapter 26, page 676-721):

* Turbobooster, E Powder PLUS and Fvite PLUS are mixed into the cooked morning meal daily to maintain healthy protein, minerals, vitamin B12 levels and to sustain optimal vitamin A & D body reserves.

* NVA Powder is given in the drinking water or on the food for 2 consecutive days each week.

 2. For companion birds exhibiting sexual behaviours (e.g. male hypersexual behaviour; ovarian hyparactivity or chronic egg laying):

* Turbobooster, E Powder PLUS and Fvite PLUS are mixed into the cooked morning meal daily (see Chart 13 on page 525 for details).

* NVA Powder frequency is increased to 3 consecutive days each week.

 3. For companion birds with signs of secondary vitamin A deficiency (see pages 484-515).

The treatment regime for these birds should be administered under the guidance of a bird veterinarian (see page 514-524 as reference to treatment plans). Owners may wish to share the information in these pages with their veterinarian.
